The
Art of Darlene Carman, The
Painting Gourmet
I am an artist inspired by my passion for
hiking and travel. In my paintings I strive
to capture the moment of my favorite experiences
creating a wide spectrum of landscapes, flora,
marine and wildlife.
More than a decade ago, I created a unique
technique using ordinary vegetables to apply
paint instead of brushes. Since then I have
continued to develop and refine this new innovative
school of art. I found that the process allows
me to better capture the natural spontaneity
found in nature. Under the name “The
Painting Gourmet”, I share
the technique of painting with vegetables with
children at local elementary schools, community
recreation centers and major community events
(15 years with The City of Sunnyvale’s Hands
on the Arts). During the summer of
2002, I put on a summer Art Camp for children
funded by a grant from The City of Milpitas.
In 2004, I received another grant to conduct
an art seminar/workshop for 100 children and
their parents. A video production of this event
was produced for local cable television.
Classroom Teaching
Experience with Children
In the spring of 1999, I offered a comprehensive
curriculum for teaching my unique technique
to children at local Elementary Schools. Since
then I have taught GATE, regular and after
school classes in the Los Gatos, San Jose Oak
Grove, and Milpitas School District’s
accumulating more than 400 hours
of classroom experience. For the last two years,
I have taught an on going weekly art program
for a local church. In addition, I am under
contract to teach children art for the Arts
Council Silicon Valley through the Arts
Connect program.
Besides teaching children, I share my art with
the community in other venues. I teach traditional
painting to adults through both Milpitas Adult
Education and Community Recreation Center. I
actively participate in gallery showings, local
fairs and fund raising auctions. I donated two
eight-foot panels for the carousel restoration
at Vasona Park in Los Gatos, CA. |
